Samba Bank appoints Ahmad Tariq as President, CEO

April 04, 2023 (MLN): The Board of Directors (BoD) of Samba Bank Limited (SBL) has approved the appointment of Mr. Ahmad Tariq Azam, who is currently holding the position of Acting President, as full-time President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the bank. 

This is subject to the approval of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations in this regard.

To recall, Ahmad Tariq was appointed as the acting President and CEO of SBL on August 1, 2022, following the retirement of the previous chief, Shahid Sattar.

He has extensive experience in the banking industry, having worked in various capacities at prominent institutions such as Bank Alfalah, Bank of Punjab, United Bank, and NIB Bank. He has handled corporate, commercial, SME, remedial asset management, and retail banking during his career.

He joined SBL in December 2013 as the Head of Institutional Remedial Management (IRM) and a member of the Executive Team.

Later, in 2014, he was asked to lead administration and serve as the project manager for real estate.

In 2015 and 2016, he was given the responsibility of setting up and leading commercial and SME banking as distinct business segments.

In 2020, Ahmad was appointed as the Group Head of the Corporate and Investment Banking Group (CIBG) and cash management.

In March 2022, he was appointed as the Group Head of wholesale banking. His portfolio now covers commercial banking, SME, CIBG, and cash management.
