Sale of passenger cars declines by 55% YoY in October

November 12, 2019 (MLN): The sale of passenger cars during the month of October 2019 stood at 9,569 units against the production of 9,547 units, a monthly report by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturer's Association (PAMA) revealed on Tuesday. This translated into a decline of 12.4 percent on a monthly basis and 55.16 percent on a yearly basis.

The cumulative number of passenger cars sold during the Fiscal Year 2020 amounted to 40,586 units, i.e. 44 percent lower as compared to total sales made in the same period of last year.

The maximum number of sales were made within the category of ‘below 1000cc’ engine, at 4,692 units. Within this category, Suzuki Alto recorded the maximum sales at 4,048 units.

Within the ‘1300cc and above’ category, 3,168 units were sold wherein Toyota Corolla made the highest sales at 1,982, followed by Honda cars which sold 1,035 units.

With respect to ‘1000cc’ category, Suzuki Cultus sold 1,179 units, whereas Suzuki WagonR sold 530 units.

The total number of trucks sold during the month increased by nearly 3.5 percent MoM at 236 units. Similarly, truck sales dropped by around 61.6 percent YoY from 615 units sold in October last year.

Within this segment, Hino made the maximum sales at 129 units, while Isuzu took the second lead by selling 80 units during the said period.

The total number of Buses sales stood at 63 units, signifying an improvement of 75 percent MoM and 46.5 percent YoY. The major sales within this category came from Hino and Master, as they both sold 29 units each.

The total number of jeeps sold during the period under review improved by 147.2 percent MoM at 450 units, while total number of tractors sold declined by 24 percent MoM at 2,861 units.

Lastly, the total number of two wheelers and three wheelers sold in September amounted to 156,872 units, i.e. 24.3 percent higher than sales in last month, and 13.9 percent lower than the sales in same month of last year.
