March 20, 2023 (MLN): The capital market on Monday witnessed a negative session on the back of economic uncertainty and political upheaval as the benchmark KSE-100 index ended the trading session with a loss of 411.50 points to settle at 40,918.45.

The Index traded in a range of 478.62 points or 1.16 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 41,390.51 and a low of 40,911.89.

Of the 91 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 25 closed up 64 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 92.21 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 128 points, Fertilizer with 76 points, Cement with 60 points, Miscellaneous with 59 points and Commercial Banks with 44 points.

The most points taken off the index were by PSEL which stripped the index of 59 points followed by OGDC with 50 points, PPL with 46 points, ENGRO with 45 points and POL with 27 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Technology & Communication with 17 points, Food & Personal Care Products and Leather & Tanneries with 8 points, Insurance with 6 points and Glass & Ceramics with 2 points.

The most points added to the index were by SYS which contributed 24 points followed by SRVI with 8 points, UNITY with 7 points, AKBL with 5 points and LOTCHEM with 4 points.

All Share Volume increased by 22.87mn to 195.48mn shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs73.59 billion.

The total number of companies traded was 310 compared to 313 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 124 closed up, 169 closed down and 17 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 1,497 to 87,730.

Value Traded decreased by 3.01bn to Rs5.01bn.
