March 21, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index concluded Thursday's trading session at 65,417.40 showing a decrease of 314.39 points or 0.48%.

The index traded in a range of 870.23 points showing an intraday high of 66,196.24 (+464.45) and a low of 65,326.01 (-405.78) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 242.672 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 33 closed up, 62 closed down, 3 were unchanged, while 2 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was let down by Cement with 115.35, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 103.56, Technology & Communication with 73.03, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 24.4, and Miscellaneous with 19.19 points.

On the flip-side, the index was supported by Commercial Banks with 41.09, Fertilizer with 37.36, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 13.82, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 4.33, and Sugar & Allied Industries with 2.84 points.

Companies that dragged the index lower were PPL with 48.63, SYS with 40.52, OGDC with 39.31, LUCK with 30.84 and PIOC with 24.59 points.

On the other hand, companies that added points to the index were NBP with 37.86, FFC with 37.82, MCB with 25.79, MEBL with 17.49, and DAWH with 13.37 points.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed the NBP's Review Petition in the Pension Case yesterday, said a company filing on the local bourse on Thursday.

Accordingly, NBP will disburse pensions amounting to Rs60 billion to 11,500 retired employees.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 43,499.92 with a net loss of 194.67 points.

Total market volume was 389.655 million shares compared to 341.844 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs11.31 billion showing a decrease of Rs0.54bn.

There were 155,386 trades reported in 355 companies with 113 closing up, 221 closing down and 21 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 23,965 points or 57.81% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 2,966 points, equivalent to 4.75%.
