May 18, 2023 (MLN): The capital market on Thursday witnessed notable selling pressure on the back of economic and political uncertainty which plunged the benchmark KSE-100 index by 391.58 points to close at 41,442.08.

The Index traded in a range of 552.63 points, showing an intraday high of 41,964.26 and a low of 41,411.63.

Of the 91 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 16 closed up 73 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 49.25 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 128 points, Technology & Communication with 93 points, Fertilizer with 56 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 45 points, and Power Generation & Distribution with 28 points.

The most points taken off the index was by SYS which stripped the index of 57 points followed by UBL with 54 points, ENGRO with 43 points, TRG with 36 points and HUBC with 22 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Miscellaneous with 28 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 17 points, Leather & Tanneries with 4 points and Modarabas with 1 point.

The most points added to the index were by PSEL which contributed 27 points followed by NESTLE with 19 points, LUCK with 9 points, SRVI with 4 points and PABC with 3 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 24.21mn to 101.32mn shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs26.93 billion.

The total companies traded were 306 compared to 319 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 82 closed up, 205 closed down while 19 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 1,390 to 66,766.

Value Traded decreased by 0.54bn to Rs3bn.
