January 29, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index ended Monday's trading session at 62,773.72 showing a decrease of 1,039.34 points or 1.63%.
The Monetary Policy Committee meeting which was scheduled for today drew the attention of investors throughout the session.
The central bank decided to keep the policy rate unchanged at 22% for the fifth consecutive meeting.
The index remained negative throughout the session showing an intraday high of 63,792.84 (-20.22) and a low of 62,717.71 (-1,095.35) points.
The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 162.232 million shares.
Of the 100 index companies 18 closed up, 74 closed down, 2 were unchanged, while 6 remained untraded.
KSE-100 index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 248.45, Fertilizer with 192.96, Commercial Banks with 173.74, Power Generation & Distribution with 80.64, and Technology & Communication with 79.52 points.
On the flip-side, the index was supported by Tobacco with 13.37, Insurance with 5.6, Engineering with 4.02, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 3.07, and Property with 2.63 points.
Companies that dragged the index lower were EFERT with 96.91, PPL with 93.74, MARI with 80.4, OGDC with 73.68 and HUBC with 54.37 points.
On the other hand, companies that added points to the index were BAHL with 25.01, PAKT with 13.37, UPFL with 9.39, INDU with 8.13, and AICL with 5.6 points.
In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 42,677.44 with a net loss of 535.66 points.
Total market volume was 317.577 million shares compared to 412.823 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs10.69 billion showing a decrease of Rs5.52bn.
There were 143,251 trades reported in 347 companies with 72 closing up, 253 closing down and 22 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 21,321 points or 51.43% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 323 points, equivalent to 0.52%.
