PSX Closing Bell: Every Little Helps

September 14, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index closed marginally higher at 45,650.06, reflecting an increase of 59.13 points or 0.13% compared to the previous session.

The index remained rangebound throughout the session as investors awaited the outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting which is scheduled for today.

Wherein the market consensus is that of a 100 basis points (BPS) rate hike.

The index traded in a range of 195.48 points showing an intraday high of 45,776.96 (+186.03) and a low of 45,581.48 (-9.45) points.

Total Volume of the KSE100 Index was 61.387 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 49 closed up, 40 closed down, 4 were unchanged while 7 remained untraded.

KSE100 index was supported by Commercial Banks with 37.42, Miscellaneous with 20.41, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 20.2, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 12.6 and Textile Composite with 7.29 points.

Companies adding points to the index were DAWH with 21.72, HMB with 14.66, BAHL with 11.44, PSEL with 11.23 and MTL with 8.8 points.

KSE100 Index was let down by Tobacco with 9.77, Paper & Board with 9.36, Cement with 9.04, Food & Personal Care Products with 8.53 and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 5.87 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were NESTLE with 11.1, PKGS with 10.17, PAKT with 9.77, CHCC with 7.52 and LUCK with 7.07 points.

On the economic front, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) maintained its upward momentum for the seventh consecutive day, closing Thursday's interbank session at PKR 297.96 per USD.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 30,406.28 with a net loss of 20.39 points.

Total market volume was 138.173 million shares compared to 102.768 from the previous session while traded value being recorded at 2.78 billion showing a decrease of Rs.1.02 billion.

There was 67,490 trades reported in 315 companies with 148 closing up, 137 closing down and 30 remaining unchanged.
