PSX Closing Bell: Down But Not Out

January 15, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Wednesday's trading session at 114,495.70, showing a decrease of 308.46 points or 0.27%.

The index traded in a range of 1,475.10 points showing an intraday high of 115,773.39 (+969.23) and a low of 114,298.29 (-505.87) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 262.92 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 39 closed up, 59 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were SRVI (-7.20%), PGLC (-4.02%), PABC (-3.84%), ENGROH (-3.35%), and KOSM (-3.13%).

On the other hand, top gainers were EFUG (+7.15%), AGP (+5.92%), GLAXO (+5.07%), TRG (+3.91%), and ABOT (+3.82%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were ENGROH (-228.84pts), MARI (-118.05pts), SRVI (-76.44pts), UBL (-50.94pts), and SYS (-40.68pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were FFC (+110.13pts), HUBC (+106.25pts), BAFL (+49.91pts), GLAXO (+40.62pts), and ABOT (+32.66pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-239.59pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-143.53pts), Leather & Tanneries (-76.44pts), Commercial Banks (-58.88pts), and Cement (-51.19pts).

While the index was supported by Pharmaceuticals (+115.83pts), Fertilizer (+111.88pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+79.60pts), Automobile Parts & Accessories (+15.69pts), and Technology & Communication (+14.72pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 71,318.13 with a net loss of 120.00 points or 0.17%.

Total market volume was 659.43 million shares compared to 589.46m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs39.64 billion showing an increase of Rs7.06bn.

There were 378,846 trades reported in 454 companies with 175 closing up, 225 closing down, and 54 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 36,051 points or 45.96% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 631 points or 0.55% so far this calendar year.
