PSX Closing Bell: The Fall Sets In

September 16, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s benchmark KSE-100 Index reversed Tuesday’s gains on Wednesday, falling 1,370.52 points or 0.81% to close at 168,021.80, as profit-taking and renewed selling across banks, fertilizer and cement stocks weighed on the market.
The decline came after the previous session’s strong rebound, with investors booking gains and trimming positions in key index-heavy stocks. Selling pressure remained broad-based, with 76 of the 100 index constituents closing lower, keeping the benchmark under pressure for most of the session.
The index traded in a range of 1,532.31 points, hitting an intraday high of 169,382.01, down 10.31 points, while the low stood at 167,849.70, down 1,542.62 points.
The total volume of the KSE-100 Index stood at 127.60 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies, 21 closed up, 76 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged.
NBP (-5.24%), GAL (-4.30%), PSX (-4.23%), PABC (-3.50%), and HUMNL (-3.27%) were the top losers.
Meanwhile, IBFL (+9.13%), AICL (+8.08%), SSOM (+7.05%), PSEL (+3.57%), and MUREB (+2.55%) led the gainers.

In terms of index-point contributions, FFC (-242.82pts), NBP (-169.17pts), ENGROH (-137.42pts), HBL (-96.56pts), and LUCK (-77.16pts) were the major drags on the index.
On the other hand, AICL (+54.74pts), PSEL (+50.33pts), UBL (+27.05pts), FABL (+25.25pts), and GLAXO (+15.00pts) provided support.

Sector-wise, Commercial Banks (-373.70pts), Fertilizer (-292.21pts), Cement (-183.78pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (-170.68pts), and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-110.91pts) weighed on the benchmark.
The index received support from Insurance (+54.74pts), Miscellaneous (+38.46pts), Synthetic & Rayon (+12.85pts), Tobacco (+7.08pts), and Vanaspati & Allied Industries (+1.45pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 101,556.93, losing 689.83 points or 0.67%.
Total market volume declined to 356.14 million shares from 372.02m in the previous session, while traded value increased by Rs2.28bn to Rs19.49bn.
A total of 278,320 trades were reported across 496 companies, with 121 closing up, 320 down, and 55 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has lost 12,280 points or 6.81% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 6,033 points or 3.47% so far this calendar year.
