PSX Closing Bell: Counting Crows

January 10, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index ended Wednesday's trading session at 63,919.85 showing a decrease of 250.73 points or 0.39%.

The index traded in a range of 677.31 points showing an intraday high of 64,550.94 (+380.37) and a low of 63,873.63 (-296.94) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 index was 336.521 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 35 closed up, 58 closed down, 5 were unchanged, while 2 remained untraded.

KSE-100 index was let down by Commercial Banks with 123.23, Fertilizer with 78.83, Cement with 29.23, Food & Personal Care Products with 18.43, and Power Generation & Distribution with 14.15 points.

On the flip-side, the index was supported by Tobacco with 30.2, Automobile Assembler with 17.39, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 15.54, Synthetic & Rayon with 2.29, and Transport with 1.71 points.

Companies that dragged the index lower were MEBL with 49.29, ENGRO with 45.2, BAHL with 42.39, EFERT with 30.69 and UBL with 15.19 points.

On the other hand, companies that added points to the index were PAKT with 30.2, PPL with 24.78, INDU with 20.22, FFBL with 5.77, and MCB with 4.41 points.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 43,192.37 with a net gain of 57.74 points.

Total market volume was 636.168 million shares compared to 448.991 from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs17.98 billion showing an increase of Rs5.70bn.

There were 202,199 trades reported in 360 companies with 154 closing up, 183 closing down and 23 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 22,467 points or 54.2% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 1,469 points, equivalent to 2.35%.
