January 16, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Thursday's trading session at 113,836.74, showing a decrease of 658.96 points or 0.58%.

The index traded in a range of 1,254.18 points showing an intraday high of 114,884.63 (+388.93) and a low of 113,630.45 (-865.25) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 176.92 million shares.

Market sentiment shifted after news broke regarding the initiation of dialogue between the establishment and senior opposition leadership, said Ali Najib Head of Sales at Insight Securities. 

This development sparked uncertainty among investors, as it raised concerns about potential challenges to the ruling coalition and their policies, he added. 

Opting to the cautious mood, the investors remained watchful ahead of a critical judgment related to GBP 190 million, scheduled for announcement tomorrow morning, he further noted. 

Of the 100 index companies 35 closed up, 64 closed down, while 1 were unchanged.

Top losers during the day were PGLC (-8.51%), EFUG (-5.55%), ISL (-3.47%), PKGS (-3.32%), and MTL (-3.28%).

On the other hand, top gainers were PKGP (+3.62%), YOUW (+3.25%), PIBTL (+2.73%), POML (+2.66%), and ENGROH (+2.38%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were FFC (-94.36pts), PPL (-80.98pts), PSO (-80.85pts), MARI (-70.03pts), and MTL (-65.67pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were ENGROH (+157.03pts), HMB (+25.98pts), PKGP (+17.85pts), HUBC (+16.39pts), and HBL (+12.36pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-232.84pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-109.50pts), Fertilizer (-101.17pts), Cement (-77.25pts), and Automobile Assembler (-71.76pts).

While the index was supported by Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+145.34pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+22.95pts), Miscellaneous (+9.92pts), Leather & Tanneries (+8.70pts), and Transport (+5.99pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 70,771.20 with a net loss of 546.93 points or 0.77%.

Total market volume was 469.44 million shares compared to 659.43m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs24.98 billion showing a decrease of Rs14.66bn.

There were 279,838 trades reported in 463 companies with 136 closing up, 268 closing down, and 59 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 35,392 points or 45.12% during the fiscal year, whereas it has decreased 1,290 points or 1.12% so far this calendar year.
