December 27, 2018 (MLN): The repatriation of profit/dividend earned on foreign investment for the month of November-2018 stands at $171.9 million, up by 12% as compared to last month i.e. October. The total payment on Foreign Investment (FI) comprised of profit on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) worth $143.2 million, and dividend on Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) worth $28.7 million.
According to provisional figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan, profit repatriation during Jul-Nov FY19 plummeted by $267 million as investors sent back home $669 million profits on FI as compared to the corresponding period last year.
Petroleum refining sector emerged as the largest contributor towards total foreign investment as its repatriation in the month of November stood at $40.3 million, a massive jump from previous month’s payment of $5.2 million.
The Automobiles sector took the second lead as its payment were recorded at $31 million in the period under review, again an enormous leap from last month’s payment of $4.1 million.
The payments on foreign investment for the Communications sector were recorded at 22.6 million in November, whereas financial business’s payment stood at $20.1 million for the same period.
