Private sector borrowing increases by almost Rs.187 billion in Dec 2018: SBP

January 21, 2019 (MLN): Loans issued to private sector businesses added up to Rs.5.1 trillion in December 2018, marking a 22% increase in the amount lent by December 2017 (Rs.4.2 trillion) and a 4% increase from prior month’s loan of Rs.4.9 trillion.

This means that in the month of December alone, a net amount worth around Rs.187 billion was lent to these business.

Out of the total of Rs.187 billion, manufacturing industry bagged the largest net sum of borrowing which totaled at Rs.147.5 billion. Within this industry, food products and beverages took up the largest share of Rs.52.9 billion.

Apart from this, other major recipients of loan comprise, chemical & chemical products (Rs.41.5 billion) and textile (RS.25.2 billion).
