POL halts production amid terrorist attack

May 24, 2023 (MLN): Six security personnel were martyred in an armed attack at two well sites of TAL Block in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in late hours on Monday, May 22, according to a statement by Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), one of the partners in the block.

The attackers opened fire at Manzalai-08 and Manzalai-10 wells, forcing the operator MOL to shut down both wells from the central control room to prevent any damage. The attack resulted in a production loss of about four million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas and 24 barrels per day of oil.

POL said that all the plants and fields installations remained safe and production of hydrocarbons from the rest of the wells was normal. The company holds a 25% pre-commerciality working interest in TAL Block, which is one of the largest producing blocks in the country.
