PM Imran Khan forms a committee for the construction of affordable houses

During a meeting called by Prime Minister Imran Khan yesterday, a committee was formed under the secretary housing and works. This committee is responsible for the development of a comprehensive plan to construct 5 million low cost, affordable houses.

The foundations for the plan were laid out in the meeting, which was attended by construction experts and relevant representatives

The Prime Minister emphasized on the importance of this plan’s execution, adding that the construction of these houses is government’s top most priority.

The construction of these houses will not only meet the local demand for cheaper accommodation within the country, but will also provide thousands of job opportunities for the unemployed; thus taking a step towards fulfilling another promise made by the newly elected government.

Experts from the construction department and other relevant authorities will be consulted for the formation of this plan.

The committee is expected to outline the first draft of the plan, including the details regarding the requirement of resources, legal framework and availability of land, and submit it to the Prime Minister within a week.

Imran Khan also stressed on the need to encourage the private sector to join hands with the government for the implementation of this plan. He added that those who partner with the government will be provided with maximum facilitation.

Keeping the residents of the slums into consideration, Prime Minister Imran Khan further added that the committee will have to devise a comprehensive mechanism for the regulation of these slums, without dislocating the poor residents, and making sure they have access to basic facilities.
