May 12, 2025 (MLN): U.S. President Donald Trump's offer to play a greater role in fostering lasting peace in South Asia was welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated, “I am extremely grateful to President Trump for his pathbreaking leadership and commitment to global peace.”

He highlighted the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the U.S., noting their close collaboration in safeguarding mutual interests and promoting peace and security in key regions.

Sharif expressed confidence in Trump’s potential to revitalize the strategic relationship between the two nations.

“I am confident that in President Donald Trump, Pakistan has found a great partner who can reinvigorate our strategic partnership and strengthen Pakistan-U.S. ties, not only in trade and investment but in all other areas of cooperation,” the Prime Minister said.

Earlier, the Foreign Office acknowledged Trump’s support for resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, emphasizing its impact on peace and stability in South Asia.

The statement also appreciated the U.S. and other friendly countries for their role in facilitating the recent ceasefire understanding between Pakistan and India, calling it a step toward de-escalation and regional stability.

On Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have lead to the death and destruction of so many, and so much.

Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision, he added.
