PKR inches up against USD

March 03, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) edged higher against the US dollar in Tuesday’s interbank trading, rising by 0.91 paisa to close at 279.45 per USD, compared with the previous session’s 279.46.

During the trading day, the currency touched an intraday high (bid) of 279.50 and a low (ask) of 279.45.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278 for buying and 280.50 for selling.

Against major international currencies, the rupee posted a mixed performance. It appreciated by 2.11 rupees, or 0.64%, versus the Euro to settle at 325.37, compared to 327.47 in the prior session.

The local unit also strengthened against the British Pound by 1.05 rupees, or 0.28%, closing at 372.52 from 373.57.

Meanwhile, the rupee gained significantly against the Swiss franc, rising 4.91 rupees, or 1.36%, to end the session at 356.81.

Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee inched up 0.42 paisa, or 0.24%, to close at 1.7756 versus 1.7798 previously.

The rupee advanced 8.94 paisa, or 0.22%, against the Chinese Yuan to settle at 40.52 compared to 40.60 in the previous session.

However, the local currency slipped slightly against the Saudi Riyal, losing 1.94 paisa, or 0.03%, to 74.47. Against the UAE Dirham, it gained 1.19 paisa, or 0.02%, to close at 76.08.

On a broader scale, the rupee has strengthened by 4.31 rupees, or 1.54%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year. On a calendar year-to-date basis, it has gained 67.13 paisa, reflecting a 0.24% increase.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 10.40% and 10.65%, respectively.
