July 05, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 1.97 rupees against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 277.407 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 275.437 per USD.
The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 277.6 and a low (ask) of 277.4.
In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 274 for buying and 278 for selling.
The currency lost momentum in today's trading session, after gaining 5 rupees against the US dollar in the open market on Monday amid the long-standing Staff Level Agreement (SLA) worth $3 billion finally signed between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Pakistan.
Moreover, PKR appreciated by 10.55 rupees against the US dollar in Tuesday's interbank session.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 1.7 rupees against the Euro, closing at 301.84 compared to the previous value of 300.14.
The British Pound became more expensive by 2.65 rupees closing at 352.34 compared to 349.69 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw gains of 1.2 rupees, closing at 308.67 compared to 307.47 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 1.35 paisa, closing at 1.921 versus 1.907 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan gained 13.34 paisa, closing at 38.29 against 38.15 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal increased in value by 53.74 paisa from 74.98 a day ago to 75.52.
The U.A.E Dirham closed at 73.96 with a gain of 52.23 paisa from its values of 73.44 a day ago.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 8.58 rupees or 3.09%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 50.98 rupees or 18.38%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remain unchanged at 22.72% and 22.97%.
