September 05, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 9.18 paisa or 0.03% against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.68 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.77.
Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.85 and a low (ask) of 278.70.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.33 for buying and 280.25 for selling.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 87.39 paisa against the Euro, closing at 308.95 compared to the previous value of 308.08.
The British Pound became expensive by 71.57 paisa closing at 366.39 compared to 365.67 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw gains of 74.5 paisa, closing at 329.15 compared to 328.41 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 1.93 paisa, closing at 1.9402 versus 1.9209 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan gained 5.58 paisa, closing at 39.25 against 39.19 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.24 with a loss of 3.63 paisa from its value of 74.27 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 2.5 paisa from 75.87 a day ago to 75.9.
During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the Dollar by 33.38 paisa or 0.12%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.19 rupees or 1.14%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 2 bps to 17.59% and 17.84%.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs1.03 trillion into the market.
