PKR jumps by over 22 paisa against USD

October 04, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 22.44 paisa or 0.08% against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 277.52 per USD, compared to previous closing of 277.74.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 277.90 and a low (ask) of 277.70.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.5 for buying and 280 for selling.

On a weekly basis, the domestic currency registered a gain of 12 paisa against the greenback.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 81.67 paisa against the Euro, closing at 305.95 compared to the previous value of 306.77.

The British Pound became expensive by 95.44 paisa closing at 365.39 compared to 364.44 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw losses of 79.92 paisa, closing at 325.55 compared to 326.35 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 0.48 paisa, closing at 1.895 versus 1.8902 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan lost 3.2 paisa, closing at 39.54 against 39.57 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal closed at 73.88 with a loss of 12.28 paisa from its value of 74 a day ago.

The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 6.11 paisa from 75.55 a day ago to 75.62.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 82.33 paisa or 0.3%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 4.34 rupees or 1.56%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 6 bps to 14.45% and 14.7%.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs1.01 trillion into the market.
