PKR gains over 16 paisa against greenback

August 02, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 16.4 paisa against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 278.5 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 278.66 per USD.

The currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.60 and a low (ask) of 278.40.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.5 for buying and 280.5 for selling.

On a weekly basis, PKR registered a loss of over Rs16 paisa against the mighty Dollar.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 20.5 paisa against the Euro, closing at 300.82 compared to the previous value of 301.03.

The British Pound became cheaper by 2.35 rupees closing at 354.13 compared to 356.48 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw gains of 1.74 rupees, closing at 319.58 compared to 317.84 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 0.83 paisa, closing at 1.8677 versus 1.8594 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan gained 12 paisa, closing at 38.6 against 38.48 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.21 with a loss of 6.55 paisa from its value of 74.27 a day ago.

The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 4.26 paisa from 75.83 a day ago to 75.87.

During the current financial year, PKR has depreciated against the Dollar by 15.88 paisa or 0.06%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 3.36 rupees or 1.21%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 2 bps to 19.12% and 19.37%.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah-compliant Modarabah-based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs9.57 trillion into the market.

Out of the total, Rs9.48tr was injected through reverse repo OMO.

Meanwhile, the remaining Rs85 billion was injected through Shariah-compliant Modarabah-based OMO.
