PKR gains around 8 paisa against USD

September 20, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 7.53 paisa or 0.03% against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 277.84 per USD, compared to previous closing of 277.91.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.15 and a low (ask) of 278.05.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.41 for buying and 280.7 for selling.

On a weekly basis, the local currency gained 33 paisa against the greenback.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 36.05 paisa against the Euro, closing at 310.19 compared to the previous value of 309.83.

The British Pound became expensive by 1.62 rupees closing at 369.82 compared to 368.19 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw losses of 74.8 paisa, closing at 327.81 compared to 328.56 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 1.52 paisa, closing at 1.9354 versus 1.9506 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan gained 8.8 paisa, closing at 39.4 against 39.31 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal closed at 74.04 with a loss of 1.81 paisa from its value of 74.06 a day ago.

The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 2.26 paisa from 75.64 a day ago to 75.67.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 50.33 paisa or 0.18%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR appreciate by 4.02 rupees or 1.45%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates dropped by 16 bps to 16.04% and 16.29%.

Yields dropped further after yesterday's Pakistan Investment Bonds (PIBs) auction which saw yields plummet by up to 335bps

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs2.24 trillion into the market. Of which Rs2.08tr were injected through reverse repo OMO.

Meanwhile, the remaining Rs161 billion was injected through Shariah-compliant Modarabah-based OMO.
