PKR remains largely flat against USD

April 02, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in Thursday’s interbank trading, appreciating by 0.96 paisa to close at 279.11 per dollar, slightly stronger than the previous close of 279.12.

During the session, the currency fluctuated within a narrow band, touching an intraday high of 279.15 (bid) and a low of 279.10 (ask).

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.00 for buying and 280.15 for selling.

Against major international currencies, the rupee showed notable strength. It appreciated by Rs1.60, or 0.50%, versus the euro to settle at 321.87 compared to 323.47 in the prior session.

Similarly, it gained Rs1.76, or 0.47%, against the British pound to close at 368.86, down from 370.62.

The local unit also advanced against the Swiss franc by Rs2.26, or 0.64%, ending the session at 349.26. Against the Japanese yen, the rupee strengthened by 0.97 paisa, or 0.55%, to 1.7488 from 1.7585.

Meanwhile, the rupee rose by 8.94 paisa, or 0.22%, against the Chinese yuan to settle at 40.50. It also edged up against regional currencies, gaining 1.25 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi riyal to 74.35, and 0.26 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at 76.00.

On a broader scale, the rupee has appreciated by Rs4.65, or 1.67%, against the US dollar so far in the current fiscal year. On a calendar year basis, it has strengthened by Rs1.01, showing a gain of 0.36%.

In the money market, benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates rose slightly by 3 basis points, settling at 11.38% and 11.63%, respectively.
