PKR falls 5 paisa against USD

January 15, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) fell by 4.73 paisa or 0.02% against the US dollar in Wednesday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.77 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.72.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.80 and a low (ask) of 278.80.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.00 for buying and 280.80 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR depreciated 1.54 rupees or 0.54% against the Euro, closing at 287.24 compared to the previous value of 285.70.

Against the British Pound, PKR decreased by 89.40 paisa or 0.26% to 341.09 compared to 340.19 a day ago.

The local unit decreased 1.30 rupees or 0.43% against Swiss franc to close at 305.80.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value deteriorated 0.67 paisa or 0.38% to close the session at 1.7768 versus 1.7701 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee decreased 0.18 paisa or 0.00% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.02 from 38.02.

The local currency depreciated by 1.26 paisa or 0.02% against Saudi Riyal to 74.26. While it fell by 1.08 paisa or 0.01% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 75.89.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has deteriorated against the US Dollar by 42.83 paisa or 0.15%. While it has depreciated 21.95 paisa or 0.08% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 2bps to 11.64% and 11.89%.
