PKR appreciates by 7 paisa against USD

December 29, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 7.1 paisa against the US dollar in Friday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 281.86 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 281.93 per USD.
The Currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 282 and a low (ask) of 281.85.
In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 280.23 for buying and 282.72 for selling.
In comparison to major currencies, PKR gained 1.98 rupees against the Euro, closing at 311.5 compared to the previous value of 313.48.
The British Pound became cheaper by 2.81 rupees closing at 358.6 compared to 361.41 from a day ago.
The Swiss franc saw losses of 78.31 paisa, closing at 335.07 compared to 335.85 from the previous session.
Against the Japanese Yen, PKR gained 1.25 paisa, closing at 1.9895 versus 2.002 a day ago.
The Chinese Yuan lost 4.4 paisa, closing at 39.63 against 39.68 from the previous session.
The Saudi Riyal closed at 75.16 with a loss of 1.3 paisa from its values of 75.18 a day ago.
The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 1.83 paisa from 76.74 a day ago to 76.76.
During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 4.13 rupees or 1.47%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 55.43 rupees or 19.67%.
In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 1 bps to 21.24 and 21.49%.
Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted a reverse repo and Shariah Compliant Modarabah based Open Market Operation (OMO) today, in which it cumulatively injected a total of Rs1.99 trillion into the market.
