September 14, 2024 (MLN): Petrol prices are expected to drop significantly by about Rs12.5 per litre following a slump in international rates, according to MG Research calculations.

Unless the government increases the petroleum levy, that would be the fourth consecutive decrease, and would bring the petrol price down to around Rs246.5 a litre.

Price estimates indicate that international petroleum product prices have fallen by 7% compared to last fortnight.

The government is also expected to cut the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by around Rs11 per litre due to a decrease in its international price.

The government will announce the new prices at midnight on September 15, 2024, which will remain in effect for the rest of the month.

To recall, in the last fortnight, the government decreased the price of petrol by Rs1.86 to Rs259.1 per litre.

Similarly, the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) was slashed by Rs3.32 to Rs262.75 per litre.
