PepsiCo, one of the largest beverage and snack companies in the world, has announced its plans to acquire SodaStream for $3.2 billion. The announcement was made on Monday, August 20, 2018.

PepsiCo has agreed to pay $144 per share in cash for SodaStream through its cash on hand. The purchase price represents a 32% premium to its 30-day volume weighted average price.

SodaStream is an Israel-based company headquartered in Tel Aviv, that makes fizzy drink-making household devices. Hence the acquisition is expected to help Pepsi by providing it a new line through which it can reach customers in their homes, rather than through stores.

While the acquisition has been unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of both the companies, the transaction is subject to a SodaStream shareholder vote, along with certain regulatory approvals.

Closing for the deal is expected by January 2019.
