Pakistan's yearly inflation stands at 12.24% YoY in February

March 01, 2022 (MLN): Pakistan's yearly inflation rate (new base 2015-16) in February 2022 was 12.24 percent compared to 13 percent in January 2022 and 8.7 percent in February 2021, data issued by Paksitan Bureau of Statistics showed on Tuesday. 

The July-February average inflation is 10.5 percent compared to 8.3 percent from the corresponding period last year.

Market expectations for February 2022 were between 11.5 percent and 12.2 percent with an average estimate of 11.93 percent mainly on high base effect.

As per the PBS data, CPI inflation in urban areas increased by 11.5 percent on year-on-year basis in February 2022 as compared to an increase of 13.0 percent in the previous month and 8.6 percent in February 2021.

On month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.9 percent in February 2022 as compared to increase of 0.1 percent in the previous month and increase of 2.3 percent in February 2021.

Similarly, CPI inflation in rural region, increased by 13.3 percent on year-on-year basis in February 2022 as compared to an increase of 12.9  percent in the previous month and 8.8 percent in February 2021 while on month-on-month basis, it moved up by 1.5 percent in February 2022 as compared to increase of 0.9 percent in the previous month and increase of 1.1percent in February 2021.

SPI inflation on YoY went up by 18.7 percent in February 2022 as compared to an increase of 20.9 percent a month earlier and an increase of 11.9 percent in February 2021 while, on MoM basis, it increased by 1.3 percent in February 2022 as compared to a decline of -0.8 percent a month earlier and increase of 3.1 percent in February 2021.

WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 23.6 percent in February 2022 as compared to an increase of 24.0 percent a month earlier and an increase of 9.5 percent in February 2021. WPI inflation on MoM basis increased by 1.9percent in February 2022 as compared to increase of 0.6 percent a month earlier and an increase of 2.2 percent in the corresponding month i.e. February 2021.
