February 01, 2020 (MLN): Pakistan's Yearly Inflation Rate (New Base 2015-16) in January 2020 was 14.56 percent compared to 12.63 percent in December 2019 and 5.60 percent in January 2019.

The July-January average inflation is 11.60 percent compared to 5.93 percent from the corresponding period last year.

The inflation numbers were significantly higher than market expectation which had projected the inflation in a range of 14.00 % and 13.41 % with an average estimate of 13.63 %.

On a monthly basis, CPI increased by 1.97 percent in January compared to a decrease of 0.34 percent in December.

Market expectation of Monthly change was between 1.50% and 0.94% with the average estimate at 1.16%.

CPI inflation Urban, increased by 13.4% on year-on-year basis in January 2020 as compared to an increase of 12.0% in the previous month and 6.2% in January 2019. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.7% in January 2020 as compared to a decrease 0.4% in the previous month and a increase of 0.4% in January 2019.

CPI inflation Rural, increased by 16.3% on year-on-year basis in January 2020 as compared to an increase of 13.6% in the previous month and 4.6% in January 2019. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 2.4% in January 2020 as compared to a decrease of 0.3% in the previous month and a decrease of 0.02% in January 2019.

SPI inflation on 18.3YoY increased by % in January 2020 as compared to an increase of 18.1% a month earlier and an increase of 3.4% in January 2019. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.5% in January 2020 as compared to a decrease of 2.0% a month earlier and an increase of 0.4% in January 2019.

WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 15.4% in January 2020 as compared to an increase of 12.4% a month earlier and an increase of 12.6% in January 2019. WPI inflation on MoM basis it increased by 1.8% in January 2020 as compared to a decrease of 0.3% a month earlier and a decrease of 0.8% in corresponding month of last year i.e. January 2019.
