Pakistan’s trade deficit narrowed by over 23% in May

June 04, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s trade deficit stood at $2.619 billion in May 2025, reflecting a 23.47% decrease compared to April 2025, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Pakistan’s exports stood at $2.55bn in May 2025, a 17.43% increase from $2.17bn in April 2025.

Meanwhile, imports decrease by 7.58% to $5.17bn, compared to $5.59bn in the previous month.

On a year-on-year basis, exports down by 10.07% in May 2025, falling from $2.83bn in May 2024.

Imports, however, rose by 5.23%, increasing from $4.91bn in May 2024 to 5.17bn$ in May 2025.

As a result, the trade deficit worst by 26.16%, reaching $2.61bn compared to $2.07bn in May 2024.

For the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2024-25, exports totaled $29.44bn, marking a 4.72% increase from $28.11bn in the corresponding period last year.

Imports during this period reached $53.45bn, up 7.3% from $49.81bn.

The cumulative trade deficit stood at $24bn, representing a 10.63% rise compared to $21.69bn recorded in the previous fiscal period.
