Pakistan, Turkiye to strengthen bilateral relations across key sectors

February 14, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Turkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in trade, economy, energy, defense, tourism, and people-to-people relations.

This commitment was expressed during a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad.

Both leaders emphasized the vast potential for economic collaboration and the need to boost trade and investment.

President Zardari welcomed President Erdogan, highlighting the historic fraternal ties between the two nations and the significance of his visit in strengthening bilateral relations.

He reiterated Pakistan’s investment-friendly environment and urged Turkish enterprises to explore investment opportunities in key sectors, including the stock market.

The discussion also covered increased banking cooperation to facilitate businesses and enhance bilateral trade volume, according to the press release.

Additionally, both leaders underscored the importance of greater connectivity and air links to promote tourism and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Regional and global issues, including the situations in Gaza and Syria, were also addressed, with both sides agreeing to work together for peace and stability.

President Zardari thanked Turkiye for its steadfast support of Kashmiris' right to self-determination.

President Erdogan reaffirmed Turkiye’s commitment to strengthening economic ties and encouraging Turkish businesses to invest in Pakistan, with a goal of raising bilateral trade to $5 billion.

He also called for deepening people-to-people relations to preserve the friendship between the two nations for future generations.

Erdogan praised Pakistan’s progress and stability and expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s continued support on the Cyprus issue.

He reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved through dialogue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Following the meeting, President Zardari hosted a banquet in honor of President Erdogan, First Lady Emine Erdogan, and the Turkish delegation.
