January 21, 2025 (MLN): The strong and expanding bilateral ties between Pakistan and Singapore were underscored, with an emphasis on deepening collaboration across bilateral, regional, and multilateral platforms.
This was highlighted by Rabia Shafiq, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore, according to the press release.
She noted that over the past few decades, Pakistan and Singapore have steadily strengthened their political, economic, and institutional partnership.
While significant progress has been made in building a strong foundation for cooperation across various sectors, she emphasized the immense untapped potential that remains.
She shared these insights during her address to members of the Singapore Press Club at a gathering held at Pakistan House, Singapore.
The event, attended by journalists and communication specialists, featured a display of books highlighting Pakistan's tourism potential and rich cultural heritage, alongside a serving of traditional Pakistani cuisine.
During her address, the High Commissioner emphasized the strong commitment between Pakistan and Singapore to work together.
While diplomatic ties have flourished, she pointed out that the economic and trade relationship still holds considerable untapped potential.
Currently, trade between the two nations stands at approximately $1.193 billion, which is relatively modest compared to other South Asian countries.
She also noted that the Halal products sector presents significant opportunities for growth.
She further said that another promising development was Pakistan’s growing presence in Singapore’s fintech ecosystem.
Since 2019, there has been regular participation in the Singapore Fintech Festival, showcasing the innovative potential of Pakistani startups.
This engagement has led to increased participation by Pakistani companies in global fintech events, further expanding opportunities for collaboration, the High Commissioner said.
