July 14, 2025 (MLN): To review the implementation and finalization of the sectoral action plan based on the Chinese Experts' Report, Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Planning Awais Manzur Sumra, Vice Chancellor PIDE, Chief Economist, Project Director CPEC Secretariat, and senior officials from various ministries and divisions.
The report, shared by the Chinese Embassy, was prepared by Chinese Working Teams following their visit to Pakistan to assess potential areas of enhanced economic cooperation.
It outlined key observations and recommendations across multiple sectors, including connectivity, the development of a national agricultural plan, Gwadar Port linkages, IT collaboration, and other strategic areas.
Ministries were asked to review the report and provide feedback, as per the press release issued.
Following the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, 10 federal focal groups were formed to create sector-specific action plans based on the technical assessments presented by the Chinese expert teams.
Since then, the Ministry of Planning, under the leadership of Minister Ahsan Iqbal, has conducted several meetings to shape the final action plan, encouraging ministries to align their inputs with Chinese recommendations and define a clear roadmap.
During the meeting, relevant ministries discussed the sectoral suggestions made by the Chinese teams and shared updates on their respective projects.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed each ministry to prepare a comprehensive response to the Chinese Experts' Report, enabling the CPEC Secretariat to compile and submit a unified reply to the Chinese side.
He further instructed that China be formally informed about the progress made by Pakistan and emphasized the need to fully utilize the opportunities identified for bilateral cooperation.
The meeting marks a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan-China economic ties and advancing mutual development goals through coordinated and strategic collaboration.
