Pakistan receives first ever Russian oil cargo

June 11, 2023 (MLN): The first ever Russian oil cargo reached Pakistan, marking a new milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Sunday.

The Vessel contains around 45,000 metric tons of crude oil, and another 50,000 metric tons are expected in a week.

In a series of tweets, Sharif said that he has fulfilled another of his promises to the nation and that the oil discharge will begin on Monday.

"Today is a transformative day. We are moving one step at a time toward prosperity, economic growth, and energy security & affordability," he wrote.

He added that this is the beginning of a new relationship between Pakistan and the Russian Federation and that he commends all those who contributed to translating the promise of Russian oil import into reality.

This is in reference to the deal between Islamabad and Moscow earlier in April, when Pakistan placed its first order for Russian crude oil, with a total of 750,000 barrels.
