February 18, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan is committed to transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable and green energy as part of its broader economic reforms, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal stated during a meeting with a delegation of Executive Directors and Alternate Executive Directors from the World Bank Group (WBG).
The discussions, held in Islamabad, focused on Pakistan’s economic transformation and strategic collaboration with the WBG.
The minister highlighted the government's "Uraan Pakistan 5Es National Transformational Plan," with a key emphasis on an export-led growth strategy.
He stressed the urgency of increasing Pakistan’s exports to $60 billion within the next five years and underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in driving economic growth.
Ahsan Iqbal also emphasized the critical role of women in the national economy, stating that measures are being taken to ensure their active participation, according to the press release.
Additionally, he called on the international community to explore innovative financial instruments to help vulnerable countries combat climate change, referencing the devastating 2022 floods that severely impacted Pakistan’s poorest regions.
The discussions further covered strategic issues related to WBG’s engagement in Pakistan, signaling continued support for the country’s sustainable and inclusive growth.
The delegation’s visit aimed to strengthen Pakistan-WBG collaboration, reinforcing efforts to achieve long-term economic stability.
