Pakistan desires closer cooperation with Trump administration

April 10, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan reiterated its desire to work closely with President Trump and his administration to strengthen bilateral relations with the United States.

The statement was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and a US delegation led by Eric Meyer, Senior Bureau Official and Acting Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State.

The delegation visited Pakistan to attend the two-day Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, held on April 8-9.

The Prime Minister welcomed the US delegation’s participation at the Forum and highlighted that Pakistan's minerals sector offers significant opportunities for investment, encouraging US companies to invest in this priority sector.

He emphasized the importance of Pakistan-US relations, not only in a bilateral context but also for regional peace, security, and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as trade, investment, and counter-terrorism, as per the press release.

Acting Assistant Secretary Meyer congratulated Pakistan on the successful hosting of the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum.

He acknowledged the potential of Pakistan’s mineral sector and conveyed the interest of US companies in investing in the sector.

Meyer also expressed the US’s desire to collaborate with Pakistan on issues of shared interest and stated that the US looked forward to further enhancing bilateral ties.

The meeting was attended by several high-level Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, SAPM Tariq Fatemi, and other senior government officials.
