April 16, 2026 (MLN): The long-delayed M-12 Motorway project has been revived under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), marked its transition into a priority infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening national connectivity and supporting regional economic development.
The project will connect Sambrial with Kharian, following
coordinated efforts by the Public-Private Partnership Authority, the National
Highway Authority, and the Ministry of Communications to resolve long-standing
implementation challenges and move the scheme forward.
Designed as a six-lane motorway, the M-12 will link Sambrial
where the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway terminates with Kharian, creating a more
efficient transportation corridor for both passenger and commercial traffic,
according to APP.
Once completed, the motorway is expected to significantly
reduce travel time along key routes while improving access between industrial
zones and population centers.
It is also anticipated to facilitate trade flows and enhance
logistical efficiency across the region.
It was noted that the project’s revival shows a broader
strategy to accelerate critical infrastructure development through a
coordinated governance framework, with the SIFC playing a central role in
removing procedural bottlenecks and improving execution timelines.
The M-12 Motorway is expected to become an important segment
of Pakistan’s north–south transport network, strengthening regional integration
and supporting long-term economic activity through improved mobility and
connectivity.
