Pakistan commits to Doha Program for LDCs: PM

March 06, 2023 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged Pakistan's commitment to implement the Doha Program of Action to accelerate sustainable prosperity in the least developed countries (LDCs).

Speaking at the fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in Qatar's capital, Doha, Sharif emphasized the need for partnerships between LDCs and developed nations, the private sector, and civil society for global prosperity.

He called on the international community to help LDCs make progress toward sustainable development and highlighted the need for major investments in health, education, and social protection systems to achieve Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He also stressed the need for reforming unequal financial architecture to address the special needs of LDCs and proposed a system of international technology combined with SDGs to help LDCs bridge their digital divide.

The prime minister praised the concrete measures of the Doha Programme of Action 2031, including the online universities, food stock system, and investment support center, and assured that Pakistan would actively support its implementation within the framework of south-centric cooperation.
