Pakistan braces for high-stakes IMF board meeting on July 12

July 03, 2023 (MLN): Finally, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) board is scheduled to meet the Pakistan side on July 12, 2023, following the Staff Level Agreement (SLA) which was finalized on June 29, 2023.

Earlier in June 2023, Pakistan’s absence from the IMF’s tentative calendar of formal meetings had ignited speculation as market participants jumped to premature conclusions without knowing the reason.

The reason behind this absence lay in the fact that the government and IMF had yet to finalize the Staff Level Agreement (SLA).

Hence, Pakistan’s earlier absence from the calendar was not indicative of a gloomy outlook for the country.
