PKR posts marginal gain vs USD

March 06, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened marginally against the US dollar during Friday’s interbank session, gaining 0.97 paisa to settle at PKR 279.40 per USD, slightly higher than the previous closing of PKR 279.41.

During the trading session, the currency touched an intraday high (bid) of PKR 279.55 and a low (ask) of PKR 279.40.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 280.00 for buying and PKR 280.45 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee showed a mixed performance. It depreciated by 53.36 paisa or 0.16% against the Euro to close at PKR 324.53 compared to PKR 323.99 in the previous session.

Similarly, the local unit weakened against the British Pound, losing PKR 1.13 or 0.30% to settle at PKR 373.53 versus PKR 372.40 a day earlier.

The rupee also declined by 53.81 paisa or 0.15% against the Swiss Franc, closing the session at PKR 358.28.

However, the currency posted gains against the Japanese Yen, appreciating by 0.32 paisa or 0.18% to end the session at PKR 1.7729 compared to PKR 1.7761 previously.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee edged up by 0.20 paisa to close at PKR 40.51.

Meanwhile, the local currency slipped by 0.53 paisa or 0.01% against the Saudi Riyal to settle at PKR 74.43, while it strengthened by 1.51 paisa or 0.02% against the UAE Dirham to close at PKR 76.07.

On a broader basis, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 4.36 or 1.56% against the US dollar so far in the current fiscal year, while it has gained 72.13 paisa or 0.26% since the start of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates increased by 4 basis points to 10.55% and 10.80%, respectively.
