April 12, 2025 (MLN): To enhance cooperation in food security and the manufacturing of electric vehicles and buses, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a bilateral meeting in Minsk.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed to work jointly in the field of agriculture and the manufacturing of farm machinery.

They also reiterated their commitment to increasing business-to-business and defence cooperation, according to the press release.

An understanding was reached to soon develop a strategy for sending over 150,000 trained and skilled youth from Pakistan to Belarus.

The two leaders exchanged views on a range of subjects, including commerce, investment, and regional matters.

Expressing satisfaction over the recent positive developments in bilateral ties, the leaders reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and boost economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Belarus.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking on the occasion, noted the significant progress made in various sectors following the eighth session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission held in Islamabad last year and the visit of an inter-ministerial delegation to Belarus earlier this year.

He appreciated Pakistan's friendly relations with Belarus and thanked President Aleksandr Lukashenko for the warm welcome and hospitality extended during the visit.

In a press stakeout, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s desire to learn from Belarus's expertise in manufacturing agricultural and mining equipment.

He highlighted that Pakistan is an agrarian economy, with 65% of its population living in rural areas.

He emphasized that joint ventures between Pakistani and Belarusian companies in agriculture equipment manufacturing would be mutually beneficial.

He also expressed interest in leveraging Belarus’s experience to increase Pakistan’s per acre agricultural yield.

The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan's vast mineral resources, valued in the trillions of dollars, and called for cooperation in this area, as well as in defence, textile, and public transport sectors.

He expressed gratitude to Belarus for its decision to invite around 150,000 young and highly skilled Pakistani workers, assuring that the workforce sent would be properly certified.

Earlier, both countries exchanged signed documents of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding covering areas including Interior, Defence, Environment, Trade, and Economy.
