FBR faces Rs649bn tax shortfall

May 01, 2026 (MLN): The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a tax shortfall of Rs649 billion for the period July–April.
Net collections during the period stood at Rs10.261
trillion, with Rs499bn issued in refunds.
Among revenue streams, income tax remained the largest
contributor at Rs5.083tr, followed by sales tax at Rs3.425tr and customs duty
at Rs1.079tr.
In April alone, the FBR collected over Rs956bn.
Overall revenue growth slowed to 10% compared to 13%
recorded in the same period last year.
