February 12, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Bangladesh have taken major steps to strengthen bilateral relations, including easing visa regulations and launching direct flights between the two countries.

These initiatives have been praised by MD Jashim Uddin, a prominent business leader, as a testament to both governments' commitment to fostering economic and social ties in the region.

He specifically thanked Pakistan’s Minister of Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, for promptly fulfilling his request to open Dhaka-Karachi flights, a move expected to boost business and cultural exchanges.

Expressing optimism about future cooperation, he emphasized that improved relations could lead to increased trade, investment, and regional integration across South Asia.

Recently, Mr. Jashim Uddin led a high-profile delegation of South Asian business leaders to Pakistan to advocate for reciprocal open visa regimes, a critical step in enhancing business connectivity.

He also praised Pakistan’s support for the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) headquarters in Islamabad.

In a reciprocal visit, a Pakistani business delegation led by FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh traveled to Bangladesh to explore avenues for commercial collaboration.

The momentum for stronger ties has been reinforced by direct flights from airlines in both countries, significantly reducing travel time and fostering frequent business interactions.

Additionally, negotiations are underway to introduce a passenger ferry service and establish direct sea routes to further strengthen regional cooperation.

Highlighting SAARC CCI’s persistent efforts in fostering economic collaboration, Mr. Jashim Uddin stated, “Our mission to fortify trade and economic ties among SAARC nations is not just a vision; it is becoming a tangible reality.”

He underscored that regional trade is the most cost-effective way to drive economic growth and improve public welfare.

To further consolidate these advancements, Mr. Jashim Uddin announced the South Asian Business Leaders Conclave, set for May 17-18, 2025, in Dhaka.

The event will bring together business leaders, industrialists, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to explore new opportunities and develop strategies for regional development.

“The Conclave will serve as a dynamic platform for dialogue, partnership, and innovation,” he stated.

Mian Anjum Nisar, Vice President of SAARC CCI Pakistan, emphasized the transformative potential of enhanced connectivity.

“People-to-people and business-to-business connectivity is the cornerstone of peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive development,” he declared, highlighting the importance of building economic bridges across South Asia.

The renewed partnership between Bangladesh and Pakistan has received widespread appreciation from South Asian business leaders, including Iftikhar Ali Malik, Former President of SAARC CCI; Mian Anjum Nisar, Vice President of SAARC CCI Pakistan Chapter; and Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of FPCCI.

They have lauded these initiatives, recognizing their potential to drive regional trade, investment, and economic prosperity.
