Nikkei index drops 2.3%, extends global slump

Tokyo's benchmark index plunged more than two percent on Friday after European and US stocks suffered big drops as volatility continued to dog equity markets.
The Nikkei index fell 2.32 percent, or 508.24 points, to close at 21,382.62, while the broader Topix index was down 1.91 percent, or 33.72 points, at 1,731.97 – AFP/APP
