New Caretaker Cabinet takes oath to navigate turbulent waters

August 17, 2023 (MLN): The 18-member Caretaker Cabinet of Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar took oath on Thursday to assume their offices. 

The oath-taking ceremony was administered by President Dr. Arif Alvi, adding an air of official sobriety to the proceedings.

This new caretaker cabinet is poised to play a critical role in upholding the functionality of the government machinery during the transitional period.

Accordingly, Jalil Abbas Jilani, a seasoned diplomat will head the portfolio of Foreign Affairs, Murtaza Solangi, a communications expert would oversee Information and Broadcasting, Sarfraz Bhugti will look after Interior, Overseas Pakistanis, and NARCO matters, Lieutenant General (Retired) Anwar Ali Haider will offer his meaningful insights into Defence, Defence Production, and Aviation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Law and Justice, National Resources, Climate Change, and Water will be managed by Ahmed Irfan Aslam, Muhammad Ali was sworn in for Energy and Power along with Petroleum, Mrs. Shamshad Akhtar, a distinguished economist will look after the matters of Finance and Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics, and Privatization and Gohar Ijaz will handle Commerce, Textile, Industries, and Production.

Dr. Umer Saif, a tech visionary will look after Information Technology, Telecommunication, and Science and Technology, Sami Saeed will orchestrate Planning Development.

Jamal Shah is appointed to manage the affairs of National Heritage and Culture while Madad Ali Sindhi will oversee Federal Education, National Harmony, and Youth Affairs.

Dr. Nadeem Jan would ensure National Health Services, Regulation, and Control, Khalil George look after Human Rights and Women's Empowerment, Aniq Ahmed would foster Religious Affairs, Hajj, and Interfaith Harmony, and Captain (Retired) Shahid Ashraf Tarar would be responsible for Communication encompassing Railways, Postal Services, Ports, and Maritime Affairs.

In addition to the core cabinet, president approved the name of following advisors:

Air Marshal (Retired) Farhat Hussain has been appointed as an advisor for Aviation, Ahad Cheema for Establishment, and Waqar Masood as an advisor for Finance.

While Mishal Hussain Malik will focus on Human Rights and Women Empowerment as a Special Advisor to the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, Jawad Sohrab Malik is designated for Overseas matters, Vice Admiral (Retired) Iftikhar Rao takes on Maritime Affairs, and Wasih Shah assumed responsibility for Tourism as Special Advisors to the Prime Minister.
