NA passes bill to amend National University of Technology Act 2018

September 10, 2024 (MLN): The national assembly on Monday passed the National University of Technology (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to amend the National University of Technology Act, 2018, as APP reported.

The bill was introduced by the minister for science and technology, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui in the house.

NUTECH was established as a university through an Act of Parliament in 2018, to create, develop, implement and promote existing and emerging technologies and produce the future employable workforce capable of enhancing industrial growth and economy of the Country.

NUTECH needs to integrate knowledge of science, engineering and technologr to produce Industry leaders, technopreneurs and technical workforce embodied with the spirit of innovation, discovery, technology creation and allied skills. Being technology university, the academics and research programs at NUTECH entail acquisition and creation of knowledge in multidisciplinary sciences, engineering and emerging technologies; hence calls for undergraduate and graduate studies in all above sa:Ld domains.

In the course of operation, an error was found in the NUTECH Act. A comma, which was originally to be placed in section 4, sub section (1) after the word engineering was missing and also insertion of the word "creating" after the word "capable of."

The proposed bill will provide legal cover and to align with the mandate of the university through said amendments.
