Fertilizer offtake falls 15% YoY in August 2026

September 21, 2026 (MLN): Fertilizer consumption in Pakistan witnessed weak performance in August 2026, as overall nutrient offtake decreased by 15.2% year-on-year to 450,000 tonnes, according to the latest Monthly Fertilizer Review released by the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC).

In August, urea offtake was at 701,000 tonnes, registering a decrease of 14.2% compared to the same month last year. Similarly, DAP consumption decreased by 7.9%, to 126,000 tonnes.

Nutrient-wise, nitrogen offtake decreased by 15.0%, phosphate by 16.6% and potash by 11.3%.

Cumulative nutrient offtake during Kharif 2026 (Apr-Aug) was 1,801,000 tonnes, which decreased by 3.7% over Kharif 2025. Nitrogen and potash offtake increased by 0.4% and 3.5%, respectively, while phosphate offtake decreased by 22.1%.

Total domestic fertilizer production during August 2026 was 764,000 tonnes. Urea and DAP production was 527,000 and 79,000 tonnes, respectively. Production of other products i.e. NP, CAN, SSP, NPKs and SOP was 70, 77, 2.3, 4.4 and 4 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Regionally, urea offtake during August 2026 increased by 6.9% in Sindh while its offtake decreased by 14.2%, 99.8%, 96.9% and 93% in Punjab, KP, Balochistan and AJK/GB, respectively, over August last year. The decrease in offtake in KP and Balochistan is due to a ban on the sale and distribution of nitrogenous fertilizers.

During August 2026, DAP offtake decreased by 3%, 12%, 17.3% and 52% in Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan, respectively, over August previous year.

On the pricing front, domestic fertilizer prices increased across the board during the month under review. Urea (Sona) and urea (other) prices rose by 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively, to Rs. 4,679 and Rs. 4,540 per 50 kg bag, while CAN edged up 0.9%. DAP, NP, SSP (Granular), SOP and NPK prices increased by 2.6%, 2.2%, 1.2%, 2.8% and 3.2%, respectively; the average DAP price stood at Rs. 16,480 per 50 kg bag.

Internationally, urea prices remained stable in both China and the Middle East during the month under review, while DAP prices also held steady in key markets such as Morocco and China.
