Pakistan gears up for high-level diplomatic engagements at UNGA

September 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements at the United Nations are set to intensify with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arriving in New York on Sunday to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Ishaq Dar was received at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Consul General in New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai, and senior officials from the Pakistan Mission and Consulate General.

The deputy prime minister is scheduled to undertake a wide range of engagements during the UNGA session, including participation in meetings of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), according to APP.

He will participate in the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, where he will reaffirm Pakistan’s support for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

The foreign minister will also attend several OIC ministerial-level engagements, including the OIC Foreign Ministers’ Annual Coordination Meeting and other OIC Contact Group meetings.

The UNGA sidelines will also feature several high-level discussions on Palestine, including the meeting of the Group of Eight Arab-Islamic countries and the High-Level Ministerial Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.

Ishaq Dar will also deliver a statement at a high-level United Nations Security Council briefing on artificial intelligence and participate in the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response.

He is further scheduled to chair the meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers.

During his stay in New York, Ishaq Dar will hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from several countries and accompany Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in high-level bilateral engagements.

The engagements will focus on Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional and international peace and stability, along with discussions on key regional and global challenges.
