Ministries of power, petroleum abolished; new portfolios formed

The strength of the federal cabinet has been raised from 31 to 34 as the government under Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has issued a notification regarding the re-organization of the portfolios on Monday.

According to the notification, the ministries of water and water, and petroleum and natural resources have been abolished. Instead, a new ministry of energy has been instituted with divisions of petroleum and power, the notification said.

A new ministry of water resources has also been established, according to the notification.

Finance ministry has been ramified into three separate ministries, as two other ministries of privatization and statistics have been set up in addition to the finance ministry.

Similarly, narcotics control division has been developed into a full-fledged ministry after it was separated from the interior ministry.

Meantime, textile ministry has been incorporated into commerce ministry, the notification said.
