Mari Petroleum discovers oil in Ziarat

September 14, 2018 (MLN): Mari Petroleum Corporation has announced the discovery of oil/hydrocarbons in Ziarat, Balochistan.

The discovery was made by the Ziarat Joint Venture in the Bolan East-1 exploratory well in Ziarat Block, near Mach City in Kachhi District of the Balochistan province.

Mari Petroleum is the Operator of the Ziarat Exploration License with a 60 percent working interest in the project, while PPL (Europe) is the joint venture partner which has a 40 percent working interest in the project.

The company also highlighted that this is the first ever oil discovery in Chiltan and Moro/MughalKot Formations in Balochistan Province.

According to the company, the well was spud-in on May 22, 2018 and was successfully drilled down to the depth of 1,500 meters, with the objectives to test the hydrocarbon potential of Sunghan, Moro/MoghulKot and Chiltan Formations.

“The Drill Stem Tests carried out in Chiltan Formation flowed 810 BBL/D of 15.6 degrees. API gravity oil with wellhead flowing pressure of 134-167 psi at 32/64 inch choke size. The Drill Stem Test carried out in Moro/Mughal Kot Formation also flowed 690 Barrel/Day oil of 15.6 degrees. API gravity oil with wellhead flowing pressure of 142-158 psi at 32/64 inch choke size during pre-acid well test operations,” said an announcement issued by the company on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

“Oil flow rate from Moro/Mughal Kot Formation is expected to increase after acid stimulation job,” it added.
